I Try to Learn All I Can About Being a Good Wife

Not having a love life as a young person means that I really had no idea what I was supposed to do the first time I got asked out on a date. I didn’t know how to act, respond, communicate really well or anything like that. But the guy I went out on my first date later asked me to marry him, so I guess I did okay! After I married him, I bought books like Language of Desire and some other ones that are well reviewed so that I could learn more about relationships. I realize that reading is not mandatory for any relationship, but I wanted to do what I could to make sure that we didn’t end up as a divorce statistic one day.

As a young person, I was incredibly introverted, shy and not very talkative. I also wasn’t a natural beauty like so many other young people are. Wearing a pretty dress that would catch the attention of the boys was not my thing. I was into climbing trees, hiking and hanging out in nature, so I often wore worn out flannels, jeans and hiking boots. Not exactly the type of clothing that makes anyone want to ask you out for a date. But I was happy, and I really didn’t feel a need to make a change.

When I got to college, I began meeting so many more people who are a lot like me. That was when I met my husband-to-be. He was part of our group, and he’s just as quiet and introverted as I am. It took him about 6 months to actually ask me out. We spend a lot of time hiking the trails around our home with our two two dogs. We are happy, and we make a really good couple.
